On August 15, 1969, people gathered to celebrate peace, love and rock 'n' roll in the state of New York. The festival was marketed as "Three days of peace and music". The event was organized to raise sufficient funds to build a recording studio. A 600-acre farm served as a gathering place for those who initially had to serve 186,000 people, resulting in around 500,000 people in Woodstock.
